The study by assistant professor Natsuki Sado and research assistant Shogo Hashimoto has been published in the Journal of Biomechanics.
In shot put, the shot is putted by a strong “pushing” motion of the upper limb during the release phase, but kinetic requirements (joint torque and power) in the three joints of the upper limb for performance were unclear.
We found that wrist joint torque and power and shoulder joint torque were correlated with shot flight distance, but there was no correlation with the elbow joint. These findings suggest that the kinetic requirement for performance differs between joints.
