Research by ARIHHP Assistant Professor Sado and his supervisor, graduate student Hobo, was selected and awarded the ISB Best Student Paper Award at the 18th Congress of the International Symposium of 3D Analysis of Human Movement (3DAHM).
The study developed a non-invasive novel method to evaluate plantar fascia strain by integrating ultrasound imaging and motion capture, considering its insertion and pathway, and revealed that plantar fascia strain peaks during the terminal stance. In the pre-existing non-invasive methods, the relative length change between the first metatarsal head and the calcaneus has been often used to alternatively assess plantar fascia strain. This study highlights the importance of considering metatarsophalangeal joint extension and provides a new perspective on pre-existing methods.
The award is open to all student members, and the most outstanding research among the submissions will be recognized.
