★New Book Published: Exploring the Frontiers of Exercise, Neuroscience, and Mental Health — Edited by Professor Emeritus Hideaki Soya

We are pleased to announce the publication of “Exercise Brain Stimulation for Cognitive Function and Mental Health,” released as part of Springer Nature’s international academic book series, Advances in Neurobiology.

This volume was edited by Hideaki Soya, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tsukuba and former Director of the Advanced Research Initiative for Human High Performance (ARIHHP). The Advances in Neurobiology series is published under an international editorial structure led by Editor-in-Chief Professor Alexej Verkhratsky (University of Manchester) and is indexed in major academic databases.

The book compiles the latest findings from sports neuroscientists both in Japan and internationally, including Associate Professor Matsui, Assistant Professor Okamoto, and Assistant Professor Kuwamizu from the ARIHHP KOKORO Division. It lucidly outlines, supported by multifaceted evidence, how even light-intensity exercise can activate the prefrontal cortex and the hippocampus. The text explains how this process contributes to improved cognitive function and health promotion through neuroplasticity.

Additionally, the book features outcomes from the “Sports Neuroscience Laboratory” (SoYassa Lab, 2016–2023). This collaborative initiative was developed over eight years by Professor Soya and Professor Michael Yassa (University of California, Irvine), who was invited under the University of Tsukuba’s “Invitation Program for Educational Units from Abroad,” a program promoted by the university since 2016.
