Professor Soya et al. from ARIHHP have published their research results in the international journal “MSSE.
Researchers at University of Tsukuba have discovered that regular light-intensity exercise (LIE) can help erase fear memories, which are linked to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This process involves the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a key molecule in the brain.
PTSD patients frequently experience concurrent depressive symptoms and struggle to maintain a consistent exercise routine. The findings of this study show that even LIE can effectively erase fear memories. Moreover, these findings may pave the way for new exercise-based treatment and prevention programs with high patient adherence.
